Industrial noise control receives increasing importance over the years due to strict noise regulations imposed by many nations worldwide. For example most of the sold diesel generators nowadays are equipped with acoustic enclosures (canopies), to reduce the noise coming from the generators to a level that is safe for human ears as per OSHA standards. One challenge here is that this noise is coming from different sources within the diesel generator and with different frequency spectrum and amplitudes. The other challenge is that when the enclosure is dropped over the diesel generator unit it should be designed to allow for the air to flow freely in order to cool the unit and supply the necessary air for combustion, this is not easy as you have to reduce the noise and at the same time allow the air to flow without causing loss of pressure across the enclosure. This course will explain the sound engineering background required for this ideal case problem and then it will cover the noise criteria, noise absorption materials and criteria to select which material. Then the course will talk about the design of enclosure walls to meet the noise criteria, select the right exhaust silencing, design the rectangular sound attenuators and acoustic louvers to achieve the noise attenuation and maintain the low pressure drop. The diesel generator noise is taken to be the study case of the course because it covers different noise and pressure drop problems. HVAC duct sound attenuation design as per ASHRAE and ARI standards will be also covered in this course with detailed calculation steps to achieve the specified NC or NR.

  • Exhaust noise design nd selection of muffler grade and muffler sizing

Day 3
  • Acoustic enclosure design workshop - design of walls, windows and doors
  • Acoustic enclosure design workshop - design of discharge rectangular attenuator
  • Acoustic enclosure design workshop - design of V-shaped acoustic louvers for enclosure inlet side
  • HVAC ssytem design and calculations workshop
  • Explain Acostix software modules and how to use it for designing and verifying industrial acoustical systems
  • Closing session: evaluation and issue certificates
